It’s been exactly one year since a devastating earthquake struck Haiti. Living in California, earthquakes are areality. Our cities are mostly built to withstand them. Countries around the world, as we so clearly saw a year ago, are not. It was estimated that 3 million people were affected by the quake including an estimated 230,000 people left dead. That is a number that is unimaginable. Over a million people were left homeless.

A year later, and still it is estimated that a million people are displaced. The recovery and clean up has come to a standstill due to politics. 2-4% of the rubble has been cleared away. These facts show us that this earthquake continues to be a tragedy.

Enter the Heart of Haiti movement.

With each purchase of these unique, handmade pieces of art a portion of that goes to support the artisans and their families.

This is initiative offers the first sustainable income for these families since the earthquake. The prices of the art aren’t outrageous either. The pieces are beautiful. I fell in love with this jewelry hanger:

It’s a great organization that directly helps the people of Haiti. Please go check out the pieces and if you’re so inclined, purchase one.

I was selected for this very special “CleverHaiti” opportunity by Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity. All opinions are my own.
