A few weeks ago, I got the pleasure of seeing an advanced screening of Eva Mendes’ new movie, Girl in Progress. I had never actually heard of this before hand but since I love movies and there was a promise of mimosas, I sent in my RSVP right away.
The movie has a basic premise, single mom struggles raising her daughter who’s coming of age. An awesome twist? The teen wants to manufacture her own coming of age moments so she can then become a woman and move away from her dysfunctional mom.
What sets this movie apart for me was the amazing performance by newcomer Cierra Ramirez. There was a Q&A with director Patricia Riggen after the screening and I was even more surprised to learn that they shot this movie in an incredibly short amount of time. That coupled with the time restrictions filming with minors entails really gave me even more respect for this movie and Cierra Ramirez. I think we’re going to see really awesome things from this girl in the future.
If you’re looking for a good girls night out movie, or something to take your mom or daughter to for Mother’s Day, this is it. I can’t wait to share it with my mom and I hope you do to!
You can check out the Girl in Progress Facebook page or follow the conversation on twitter by checking out the hashtag #GirlInProgress.
Happy Mothers Day!
I don’t really need a disclosure here because I wasn’t asked to write this but I did want to tell you that I totally got those mimosas I talked about and they were delicious.
