                    Title: Towards Net-Zero Energy Buildings: Renewable Energy Technologies and Phase Change Materials for Improved Building Performance


                    Abstract: Net-zero energy buildings have been recognized as one of the feasible approaches to significantly reducing building energy consumption to promote building energy efficiency and sustainability. This presentation will introduce two net-zero energy living-lab buildings with the-state-of-the-art energy technologies recently developed at the University of Wollongong (UOW). The latest research work carried out at the UOW on dynamic modelling, performance evaluation and optimization, and in-situ monitoring of renewable energy technologies such as building integrated photovoltaic thermal (BIPVT) systems, cool roofs and transpired solar collectors will be introduced. Various strategies to effectively integrate BIPVT with phase change materials (PCMs) for improved building performance will be demonstrated.

                    Dr Zhenjun Ma is a Senior Lecturer at the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre, University of Wollongong, Australia. He is a member of Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) and is a committee member of Special Technical Group of Big Data & Analytics and Special Technical Group of Solar Cooling, AIRAH. His major research interest is on building control optimization, building integrated renewable energy technologies and thermal energy storage using phase change materials. He has published over 65 journal articles and 40 conference publications, with an h-index of 17 and total citation of 1120 (Scopus). Two of his publications were ranked as highly cited papers in Thomson Reuters.
